Hesperus Mountain Chalet is our fully updated 3 bedroom / 3 bathroom mountain home on 4 acres of land - it is the perfect luxury escape for your next trip to Colorado! Get away from it all, but still be close enough to town to enjoy everything Durango has to offer.

During your stay, relax in front of one of the three fireplaces in our home (2 wood burning, 1 electric), soak up the natural light in the sunroom, cook an amazing meal for everyone to enjoy in our fully functional kitchen with gas stove, or enjoy the sounds and beauty of nature. Thoughtful additions in the home include two workspaces, a towel warmer in the main En suite bathroom, and a wine cooler in the kitchen. There are two main TV watching locations - in the living room and in the sunroom.

AREA: Our home is 5 minutes to Kennebec Cafe, 5 minutes to Hesperus Ski Area, 15 minutes to historic downtown Durango, 20 minutes to Lake Nighthorse, 30 minutes to Mesa Verde National Park, 50 minutes to Purgatory Ski Resort. You can access the mountains to the north via LaPlata Canyon Road just a short drive away (turn in at Kennebec Cafe).

PETS: Dogs are considered for this home (1 small dog max), and the pet fee is $40/day (Max $250). Please note the property is NOT fenced and is near a road. Pets must be crated if they are left home alone.

COOLING: This home has a mini-split AC cooling system in the living room and in the sunroom. There is also a portable evaporative cooler to assist in cooling the home during heat events.

Book at least a week and a 10% discount is automatically applied (Excludes Christmas/New Years).

Stay with us and we offer DISCOUNTS on both summer (white water rafting, horseback riding etc.) and winter (ski/snowboard rentals, sleigh rides, snowmobile tours etc.) activities.

Cancellation Policy: A non-refundable payment of $300 is required at the time of booking. This $300 payment is applied toward the total amount due and is only refundable within 72 hours of the time of the booking is made. If your arrival date is within 30 days of booking, payment in full is required at the time of booking. Cancellations or changes to stay dates, including changes that result in a shortened stay, are not permitted within 30 days of arrival, and any such changes will result in a penalty. Cancellations or changes that are made within thirty (30) days of the arrival date, forfeit the entire reservation amount while cancellations made more than thirty (30) days in advance of your arrival only forfeit the $300 payment made at the time of booking. For reservations that are at least thirty (30) nights, the cancellation policy above increases to sixty (60) days prior to the arrival date. We do offer travel insurance.

The most picturesque Winter Getaway!!
Pictures do not do this home justice! The decor is absolutely divine. This property is an absolute dream, with a stream that runs through the backyard. Great communication with the host!Would definitely stay here again & recommend to anyone looking for the perfect tranquil getaway!

We had plenty of space. Comfortable seating in the living room. Comfortable beds. It would have helpful to have instructions for the SMEG coffee maker. Outdoor seating with beautiful trees. We would go back to this home.

The reality exceeded our expectations! Spacious, Quiet, and Perfectly Located. We were pleasantly surprised by the generous amount of space in this listing, far more than the photos convey. Its proximity to Durango was ideal, making our last-minute booking feel like stumbling upon a hidden treasure. Despite reading about previous plumbing issues in reviews, we encountered none during our stay, indicating that any prior concerns have been effectively addressed. The only downside, if any, was the absence of air conditioning. However, the warmth of late May was manageable, and the house remained comfortable throughout the day. An unexpected delight was the welcome box provided, stocked with essentials like dish soap, a sponge, laundry pods, and more. Accessing the property was simple, and the presence of a small river at the back offered a serene backdrop. Without hesitation, we highly recommend this property and look forward to returning ourselves.

We had a great time at the property. It was beautiful and well kept. We requested firewood at one point that was never delivered but we made do without it. Ultimately we would recommend this place & would stay here again!

Beautiful property with great space for everyone in our party. Would have been perfect except when we unplugged the 10 scent warmers and had management close the three broken open windows the smell of the septic made one of the restrooms and bedrooms uncomfortable. The very helpful gentleman that brought firewood and propane said they needed a plumber to fix it, but a plumber did not come during our stay so we were stuck with the awful smell.

Best 1st time VRBO experience!
My family and had never tried VRBO before, and all I can say is WOW, it was an amazing experience! It’s rare, but I feel like the home looked better than the pictures, the rooms were big, the home had everything we could have needed, and more! The home was stunning and it was only 15 minutes away from Durango! The best part about it, is unlike other similar sites, we didn’t have a long list of chores before we left. Although we did leave the home in great condition, it was nice not to have a chore list. My family and I are planning another stay in this rental and definitely using VRBO again!

Awesome House
Great stay in Hesperus❣️ We came for the annular eclipse. Our group traveled from Northern New York State and locally near Denver. We spent a day at Mesa Verde…easy travel. Great location for the eclipse. Loved the house…the kitchen was amazing and had just about everything we needed. Bedrooms and bathrooms were fabulous. Lots of towels and plenty of bedding supplies. Lots of unique designs to the interior. Nice touches in every room. Great soap and room scents. The property is just pretty. Lots of outdoor seating. There are 2 fireplaces and a wood stove. We did not need to use them but they look so nice. Not much for groceries/supplies in Hesperus. Stop in Durango on the way in for those things.

Perfect location
We liked being a little outside of Durango, but still close by for all necessities. The Kennebec Restaurant was nearby and excellent. All the activities were easily accessible: Mesa Verde, Train to Silverton, Pagosa Springs and the Million Dollar Highway to Ouray. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the property.

House is beautifully designed, and had the most comfortable beds we’ve had at a hotel or VRBO. Extra bedding, fans, heaters, etc were available. Kitchen was well stocked. Only issue was not enough towels were stocked, and it took a while of working with the management company to get some.
