Unit Okay, Owner Meh
I'm a Hawai'i resident who visited Moloka'i from another island. I was unfairly profiled as a potential problem since the owner experienced problems with Hawaiʻi residents in the past. This unit was the cheapest one that fit my needs, so I just ignored this and continued with the reservation.There were minor issues that I wouldn't have minded if the owner wasn't so dismissive in his responses. After a voice message and emails that weren't helpful, I stopped communicating. I was on Moloka'i to enjoy time with my family, not to engage in futility.The issues: 1. The faceplate of the lock box fell off of the base. I had a hard time replacing it. 2. The key to the deadbolt did not work all of the time without having to fuss with it. 3. The fridge door keep hitting the counter when I opened it. I brought it up to the owner because I didn't want to be blamed for any damage that might've resulted. In his voice message, he said that the fridge isn't anywhere near the counter, so he didn't know what I was talking about. I emailed him pictures of the situation. It turns out, the fridge wasn't pushed all the way back into its cabinet. So, it was near the counter after all. 4. There was no visible way to lower the window blinds in the bedroom. He told me to just pull them down with my hands. I'm short. The windows are high. I couldn't reach them. I didn't even tell him about the roaches crawling on the kitchen counter while I prepped food. Roaches in bathroom and bedroom, too.
