Taranaki Creekside KEA by Tiny Away
Welcome to Taranaki Creekside KEA! The ideal holiday homes NZ escape sits on a 4-acre lifestyle block in rural Taranaki, which is divided into four paddocks, roughly an acre each. Surrounded by working agricultural farms, to the east is a dairy farm, to the west is a horse ranch, and south is a beef cattle ranch. A hidden gem within Egmont (Taranaki) National Park, overlooking Tongariro, Ruapehu, and Ngāruhoe.
The Space:
Taranaki Creekside KEA by Tiny Away is 8 km from the town of Stratford in Taranaki, New Zealand. Located in one of the best tiny house rentals in Taranaki, perfectly nestled beside a creek, among native trees and bushland. It has unobstructed views of the spectacular Mt Taranaki—one of the few places in the world with both an alpine mountain and a surf beach, all within a 30-minute drive. Nearby Stratford, Midhurst, and Egmont National Park are just a few of the attractions in the area.
A comfortable 139 square-feet stay set in an idyllic setting where your welcoming hosts would love to share their beautiful location overlooking "Mt Doom" from "Lord of the Rings" and Mt Taranaki from “The Last Samurai” bear a resemblance to Mt Fuji.
What's more, our holiday homes NZ experience comes with easy access to water, split air conditioning, a kitchenette, cooking equipment, and excellent bathroom facilities. These amenities eco-friendly cassette toilet with a removable waste-holding tank, hand basin, and shower (gas heated for hot showers) for your use.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Taranaki KEA is tucked away behind the main Farmhouse and nestled under the trees, while our second tiny home, Taranaki TUI is visible from the road. If you want to book in groups, please contact your land host 24 hrs in advance.
Furthermore, since the tiny house is positioned at high altitudes, snow occasionally falls here. The area is relatively quiet, despite being surrounded by agricultural operations such as farm animals and farm vehicles on-site.
Guest Access:
Guests will have access to the tiny house and are welcome to explore our paddocks and creek.
Do not drive through fields or paddocks to park near the Tiny House. This damages our pasture and risks your vehicle’s safety. Our farm has active livestock that may cause damage if vehicles are parked improperly. We cannot be responsible for any vehicle damage caused by disregarding these instructions.

- Continental Breakfast is available for an extra cost and by prior arrangement with the host
- Pre-cooked, frozen meals are also available for your convenience
- Gas BBQ grill available for an additional cost, supplied with LPG gas, BBQ tools, skewers, and other miscellaneous equipment.
- We also offer workshops in herbal remedies, homemade artisan beauty products (e.g., such as handmade soaps, balms & lotions), and traditional Māori Flax Weaving.
- Don't forget to message your Land Host directly regarding your approximately Check-in time/window. Just to ensure they are home when you arrive, to welcome you and show you around.

Our local recommendations:
- Stratford Township is a Shakespearean-inspired town offering hiking, cycling, and climbing trails in Egmont.
- Midhurst Township is a small town in Taranaki that is historically known for its towering concrete and glass milk-powder drying facility.
- Egmont National Park is an exciting site with 53 great trails, including the York Loop Track, which is ideal for hiking, walking, and birding.
- Pukekura Park is often described as the jewel in New Plymouth's crown, right in the heart of the city and is one of New Zealand's premier botanical gardens.
- Brooklands Zoo offers a free, fun day out with whānau and friends to see exotic mammals, farmyard animals, reptiles, colourful birds and more.
- Puke Ariki is an integrated knowledge hub. The central New Plymouth site combines a museum, library, research centre and isite. also has five community libraries and a mobile library.
- The Good Home is a great place to chill after a day's adventure offering delicious food, live entertainment, and other specials on the menu.
- Colonel Malone's Restaurant & Bar is a relaxed, rustic tavern serving local meal favorites, craft beers, and single-malt whiskies in Stratford.
Getting Around:
By car:
- 30 mins, 35 km from New Plymouth on State Highway 3 to our property/ tiny house
- 35 mins, 40 km from Hāwera in South Taranaki on SH3. Our home is 2 km off Mountain Road, SH3. Accessible by 2WD.
By public transport:
- New Plymouth has a domestic airport with connecting flights from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch International Airports.
- There are public bus services from Auckland, Wellington with connecting services from major cities and smaller towns on the North Island.
- The nearest provincial towns to us are Stratford, which is 10 mins, 8 km. New Plymouth - 30 mins, 35
km. Or Hawera, 30 mins, 40 km.
Other Things to Note:
- Please note that CHECK IN TIME IS BETWEEN 2 PM - 7 PM ONLY. Kindly provide your estimated arrival time (ETA) to ensure compliance. Failure to follow this time may require you to refer to our Late Check-In and Parking Policy.
- Tap water is safe to drink, but we provide two bottles of boiled and chilled water for our guests
- We are offering various activities : Soapmaking, NZ Māori Herbal Remedies, and NZ Māori Flax Weaving
- No smoking allowed on the property
- Good reception for all mobile networks
- Gas BBQ grill is available with extra cost
- No unregistered guests or visitors are allowed
- We have chickens, ducks, eggs, herbs, and vegetables
- Please note that we are "Currently Rearing Poultry" on the property
- We ask guests to REFRAIN FROM ENTERING neighbouring farms without the host's permission
- Please note that paddock fences are electrified and farm gates must remain closed at all times.
- We would like to advise guests that longer stays or later check-outs will incur an additional charge
- In the meantime, we are focused on rebuilding multi-tiered native forest shelterbelts with permaculture techniques and learning to live sustainably & self-sufficiently.
Safety guidelines
- Please note that we have a creek boundary with eels that we occasionally feed with food scraps.
- We would like to advise guests to wear gumboots (or rubber boots) as the property sits in a rural area. The fields are also not always level and the creek access can be steep and slippery when wet.
- While we welcome children, please note that parental supervision is essential due to electric fencing, large farm animals, steep gullies, creek, and fast-flowing culvert to ensure their safety.
Important note:
- Due to the nature of the property, abundant wildlife may be present on the property
- Keep in mind that BBQ charcoal/wood grills and outdoor fire pits are not available during a total fire ban
- Please consult with the land host BEFORE lighting fires if you should bring your own firewood. There may be total fire bans or restrictions!
- For stays of 5 nights or more, an additional cleaning fee will be collected to help maintain the cassette toilets and ensure a clean and fresh experience for all guests. We appreciate your understanding.
