Charming Guest House in Mountain View

Newly remodeled home on a two acre property will provide you a real taste of big island living. Peaceful and relaxing environment. Fresh mountain air. Magnificent native foliage. Comfortable cool climate.

Explore the island by kayaking in Hilo Bay. Complimentary rental of two ocean kayaks for the guests listed in the booking.

The property is located between Hilo town (30 min drive) and the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park (25 min drive), convenient to explore the windward side of the island.

Our duplex home consists of three bedroom main house and one bedroom/guest house. Both units are currently being rented out. The units are separated by laundry room and carport - the shared space with other guests.

The one-bedroom guest house (left side of the duplex) is bright with lots of natural sun light and breezy trade winds. Two private entrances, a wrap-around lanai and a large private front and back porches where you can enjoy your morning cup of coffee or evening cocktail drinks.

The bedroom has a comfortable king size bed and a full bed with 100% cotton sheets. A full size pull-out sofa in the living room sleeps additional two guests.
The kitchen is equipped with a full size refrigerator, hot plate, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, air fryer, and other essentials for cooking. The bathrooms are furnished with clean towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner and hair dryer.

Our water comes from the rain water catchment system, very common for this island. It is filtered by UV light system, but it may not be best for drinking. You may want to bring your own bottled water.
The laundry room and carport are common area to be shared with other guests staying in the three bedroom main house.
The gate lock code and other check in instructions will be provided a day before your arrival.

Belle propriété, bien équipée. Près du parc Volcano. Toutefois c'est très humide dans la maison. Le matelas du divan-lit avaient du moisi et ne sentais pas très bon.

Lovely stay
When we arrived the instructions were very clear and if we had a question they responded really quickly! I came with 4 friends and everything was clean, there was some chocolates on the table and it was really welcoming :) Also the house is fully equiped with towels, hygene things and the kitchen has a lot of things included such as rice cooker or minioven. The location is perfect, as is a quiet place and not far from anything!!! (just the birds at night that make the noise hahah)

Great family stay with grandkids
Remote quiet house with all the necessities. Clean, modern and simple We took the grandkids for a fun week on the big island. The little ones loved room to roam and explore. Nights were very quiet and restful. The beach chairs and gear were well appreciated. The kichen had everything we needed. We would look forward to staying again. Easy 5 stars

The house was perfect for us. After long traveling days, our kids were able to enjoy running around outside. The host had everything we needed. It was clean and the decor was pretty. We’re not big plastic water bottle people and the host had a Brita water filter which was great. It’s a short drive to VNP. I can’t say enough good things. We would stay here again. One of my girls left a necklace, unbeknownst to me, and the host messaged me to ask me if I’d like her to mail it to us.

A Quiet Stay Out of Town
Our only difficulty was needing an actual physical address in order to rent a vehicle. The directions were excellent, though including highway mile markers would have been useful as well. Nice little duplex with everything we needed. Well appointed kitchen with all the basic equipment. A few condiments as well. Warm and comfortable bed. Good internet connections. No tv. Shared laundry allowed lots of noise transfer between the two sides.

Beautiful lanai wraparound porch and jungle surroundings
This was a beautiful, clean property with plenty of windows and natural light. My wife and I enjoyed staying here, but we had a couple of notes that might be relevant to others looking to stay here. First, the location is relatively remote. We chose it because we thought it would be a nice central location to accessing both Hilo and Volcano, but the roads leading to this property are a bit underdeveloped/rougher and it takes a good bit of time to access the main highway loop 11. If you're looking to be more separated from everything else going on around the island, it could be a good spot for you. Next, unfortunately, the water pressure was spotty. I imagine due to the remote nature of the property, you can really hear the water pump working hard to give you what little it can. If you have a neighbor during your stay, their usage of the water will affect yours. And finally, the property has two units which are connected through the laundry room. If you're looking for privacy, you may not get what you're looking for here, depending on whether or not someone has booked the ajoining unit at the same time. You can certainly hear each other and the windows are only partially curtained. All that said, it was still a wonderful stay and we had no troubles checking in or communicating with our host!

This was our second stay at this property, this time for two weeks. It had everything we wanted as far as comfort and kitchen amenities. It's close enough by car to shops but secluded enough to feel "away from it all." Great hosts, very clean premises, lovely setting.

Charming house with lots of extras
We really enjoyed our stay at Fern Acres! It is a beautifully decorated, immaculate house that was perfect for our family for a few days - mom, dad, and two teenagers. We really appreciated the extra towels and blankets, the coffee and kitchen supplies, laundry room, fan, etc. I particularly appreciated the Big Island guidebook provided because it was MUCH better than the one we brought. Centrally located - we visited Mauna Kea, waterfalls along the coast, Hilo, and Volcanoes National Park in a few days. Lock box was easy to access keys. Would stay here again. Thank you!
