Recent renovations have included the living room, kitchen, bathroom, redecoration and furnishing throughout the house, and installation of new secondary glazing.
- Ground Floor
The ground floor comprises living, dining, kitchen and utility/drying room accommodation.
The living room provides a large comfortable sofa, 43” Sony Smart TV, remote controlled electric fireplace – making it the perfect area to relax with a cup of tea, or something stronger, after a long day exploring.
Within the recently installed and locally made kitchen, our guests have access to a new cooker, Bosch fridge freezer, kettle, toaster, microwave, breakfast table, with quartz worktops for ample space to prepare meals.
The kitchen leads to access to the raised rear garden, a lovely space to sit in the warmer months and winter months when wrapped up warm.
Also off the central hall is the utility / drying room, containing a Bosch washing machine, Hotpoint tumble dryer and lots of room for storage – perfect for outdoor and walking equipment with hanging space, tarp and boot tray. The utility room leads into the convenient WC.
Opposite the kitchen is also the dining / second living room, providing a dining table for 6 - 8 people, a comfortable sofa, 40” Samsung Smart TV and gas fire.
- First Floor
The first floor comprises 3 bedrooms and the recently fully renovated bathroom.
The spacious master bedroom is complete with king-sized bed, ample wardrobe storage, dressing table, bedside tables and bedside lighting.
There are then two fully redecorated single bedrooms with each containing a chest of drawers, and one with a small built-in wardrobe.
The bathroom is completely newly installed within the last couple of years. Modern with a large powerful double rain and hand held shower, a bath with shower head, sink, toilet, radiator and LED touch point mirror – perfect for getting ready.
- Second Floor
Up onto the second floor, is the attic which contains 2 further adjoining bedrooms (with interconnecting door between bedrooms) - 1 king and 1 dual single set up on request / with a small charge per bed (a ‘Habitat’ day bed which can provide two separate single beds, one raised & one at ground level), along with chairs, chest of drawers and mirrors. When not set up as a dual single bedroom, the dual single room is an additional lounge area as standard for the king room and to relax with a book or tablet.
Both are ample sized rooms with sky lights for windows, offering light but also privacy. Ideal to accommodate a family or friends of 3/4, with the first floor also able to accommodate a family or friends of 3/4.

Duke’s House – The Story behind the Name
Our family home for 35 years, the property was fully renovated and brought back into use when originally purchased in 1986.
Now offered as a home away from home, the inspiration for the name lies with Richard, Duke of Gloucester who later became King Richard III in 1483.
Nearby Duke’s House is Dockray Hall. Dockray Hall was built by Richard’s Grandfather around 1400 and King Richard resided there whilst extensive work was carried out at Penrith Castle around 1471.
It is understood that Dockray was linked to the castle by a tunnel which ran from the north east corner of the castle, a distance of some 307 yards – a secret means of escape from the castle.
As well as the local link, the name is also a nod to our grandfather who served in the Duke of Wellington Regiment in the Korean War.
Parking
The house is situated directly next to both on street parking and a large public car park (Great Dockray Car Park) which are both run as a free ‘Disc Zone’ during Monday to Saturday, 8am – 6pm. A Disc allows for 1 hour free parking during these hours, plentiful time to arrive and unload before moving to a nearby long stay car park.
Between 6pm to 8am (plus all day Sunday), no Disc is needed and there are no restrictions – perfect if returning in the evening after a day out in the Lake District or Eden Valley and then heading out again in the morning allowing you to leave your car overnight until 9am (8am + 1 hour Disc).
If preferred or to supplement parking available in Great Dockray, numerous long stay pay parking options are within a short walk of Duke’s House.
