Situated in the heart of the Charente region of Western France, The Farmhouse at La Grenouillère is a charming 19th century rural farmhouse. Set in 6 acres of private land including a private woodland, the house provides tranquillity and privacy, close enough to major towns and airports - the ultimate rural escape. Whether you’re looking for the perfect get-away with the family, a place for multiple couples to holiday together or simply a base from which to explore the beautiful countryside.
The main house is situated between two large barns which creates a lovely secluded and spacious outdoor area overlooking the large garden and private woodlands. The downstairs of the property is open plan with a hand-built, fitted kitchen which leads you into the lovely dining and living space with two separate lounge seating areas. There is also a large desk should you need to do some work during your stay. Upstairs are three spacious bedrooms, one of which has a half wall revealing the wooden beam structure and the downstairs of the house. A modern wet room sits between two of the bedrooms with a shower, sink and toilet. The second bathroom is situated downstairs in the utility room and also has a shower, sink and toilet.
We are located just outside of the village of Puyreaux, a traditional and sleepy French community. The closest town and supermarket is Mansle, located 3km away, which boasts various restaurants, butchers and boulangeries. Also in Mansle is an excellent watersports centre offering canoeing and kayaking on the Charente River. We are also close to the classic and picturesque French towns of Vertuil-sur-Charente, Nanteuil-en-Vallee, La Rochefoucauld and Ruffec – two of which have magnificent chateaus, one a lovely arboretum, abbey and church and two host bi-weekly markets. Our closest city is Angouleme which is the region’s capital and located on a plateau overlooking the Charente and is nicknamed “the balcony of the south west” and has walkable ramparts. With multiple museums, a stunning cathedral and hotel de ville (Townhall) plus countless restaurants, bars, cinema, a summer waterpark and week-long covered market, Angouleme is worth multiple visits.
