Port Stephens Family Holiday

Our friendly family welcomes you to enjoy a stay at Koala Cottage, which is a 2-bedroom separate dwelling set away from the main house with your own space sharing 2.5 acres of native bushland and manicured gardens. Our property is fully fenced, and families and children are welcome.


Salt Ash, Port Stephens is located a short 10-minute drive from Newcastle airport and is a great base to explore the variety of options this amazing area offers with easy access to Port Stephens, Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and The Hunter Valley.

Koala Cottage is equipped with a kitchenette which includes an oven, grill, air fryer combo - hob x 2 - microwave - toaster - kettle - kitchen utensils - Fridge/Freezer, Pantry items. Dining/lounge area, TV (Free WIFI)
2 reverse cycle air conditioners and ceiling fans in lounge-room and both bedrooms. Shower over small tub.

Lounge: 1 x Double sofa bed

We supply fitted and flat sheets, duvets, duvet covers, pillow, pillowcases, mattress protectors, bath towels, hand towels, bathmats and kitchen towels. We ask that you please supply your own beach towels.

The property has a wide driveway entrance for easy access and ample parking for cars and boats. Our circular driveway (gravel) allows children to safely ride bicycles around the property.

Koala Cottage also hosts a trampoline, swing set & board games. There is plenty of space for children to run and enjoy nature.

Our coastal and rural acreage has visiting wildlife such as Koala, Possum, Goanna, Reptiles, and many different native birds including Rainbow Lorikeet, Eastern Rosella, Blue Faced Honeyeater, White Cockatoo, Yellow Crested Black Cockatoo, Pink Galah and Kookaburra. We also have an abundance of butterflies and dragonflies.

Unfortunately, pets are not permitted.

We have a friendly Australian Cattle dog, Ivy. We also have chickens and can supply fresh delicious eggs for you to enjoy during your stay.

You are welcome to relax around a fire pit which are STRICTLY prohibited during the Bush Fire Danger Period.

Koala Cottage operates with tank water only.

We are the perfect base for a fishing trip.

We are located a short drive from one of the largest coastal dune driving areas in NSW, Stockton Sand Dunes. The park provides four-wheel drive access to more than 19 km of Stockton beach front and over 350 hectares of dune driving in the Recreational Vehicle Area at the southern end of the park. Permit required.

Best f***ing place ever!!
This weekend has been the most fun filled and welcoming weekend I have ever experienced, the owners Fiona and Scott were so hospitable and welcoming you really didn’t feel like you were a guest, you felt like you were family. Going above and beyond with our children offering so many snacks and activities for the kids and the most friendliest dog on the planet!! Amazing stay, definitely coming back!!

We had a fabulous stay and Fiona went above and beyind in making us feel welcome. So many people make their homes feel like a money making venture, however Fiona was kind and generous in providing us with so many extras - bread, butter, eggs, icy poles, cereal, activities for the kids, posies of flowers.... the list goes on. It was evident that her heart is in making her visitor's feel welcome and wanted. We had a such a delightful time. There are so many things for the kids to do including swimming, badminton and playing with Ivy who is gorgeous. My kids wanted to take her home! The house is well equipped and had everything we needed, including tissues (which is a rarity in so many places). Thanks to Fiona for making our stay so memorable.

Perfect weekend getaway
We booked this cottage as a guest house while one of friends was hosting a wedding at Heaven's Gardens. The property was just down the road and is set in a gorgeous bush setting with everything you could possibly need! The attention to detail and cleanliness of the cottage made it a perfect stay, and everyone commented on how cute the cottage was and the facilities (e.g. BBQ, firepit, board games, wifi, air conditioning and their friendly dog Ivy) were more than they were expecting! Fiona was so welcoming and friendly, and we felt like we could ask her anything. We will definitely be back :)

Great eacape
It was great short escape from the normal routine and devices. Kids enjoyed hanging out on the property, playing the supplied games and the flying fox. Fiona was a sensational host .. Easy to deal with and very responsive. Nothing was too much. Would definitely go back next time we need a quiet escape.

Perfect Holiday Cottage for families
We love this place, Fiona is a excellent host, we loved here hospitality and communication. This place is a hidden gem lot of activities for kids and adults, in room games, books , toys, outdoor play like badminton, sand pit , trampoline etc. Fire pit was a bonus for cold nights we had amazing time, kids loved playing with chickens :) We would definitely visit again.

Comfortable stay!!
Fiona and her family were so welcoming and friendly. Fiona communicated with me well in the weeks leading up to our stay to make sure we had everything we needed. The place was lovely and had so much room for us. There was a beautiful basket filled with snacks, wine and treats as well as plenty of breakfast options including eggs from their chickens. Thankyou so much for making our stay so comfortable.

This property was perfect for our fishing trip. In a quiet area with ample off street parking for large boats, it is also gated up and safe. Fiona is extremely generous and made sure we had everything we needed and then some. I look forward to staying there again and i highly recommend staying

Beautiful place to stay, amazing hospitality!
Myself and a group of friends stayed here for the Easter long weekend. I don't think we have ever had this level of hospitality before! The owners kept surprising us. They had plenty of food, wine etc all stocked in for us. They prepared the camp fire for us and were happy for us to stay out there. They brought us bacon over in the morning! They are both incredibly friendly and welcoming, and they have plenty of great suggestions on things to do in the area. Their dog Ivy is amazing and so friendly, and would often come and say hi. Staying here really made our weekend, as it added an element of staying in a nice natural environment, in the trees with plenty of outdoor space. There's a big bbq as well which was a great bonus. Great place for a group of friends to stay, the owners are very accommodating and you have your own space too. Nothing but positive feedback from all of us, we all loved the trip and would definitely stay here again!

Koala cottage was perfect for our family. Clean and comfortable with everything we needed. But it was the outdoors and the warm welcome that will have us coming back- loads of space for the kids, a small pool, chickens, eggs, guinea pigs, a brilliant zipline and a lovely dog called Ivy! From Colorado to Australia a Home away from Home
My husband, myself, and our three kids (16, 9, 3) had the most relaxing time. Fiona made us feel absolutely welcome, and provided us with some great information about the local area and things to do. The location was perfect, an easy drive to the beaches. The detached single family home was private, quite, and had everything we needed. The fresh eggs, tomatoes and herbs were delicious and a nice touch. We would definitely come again! Highly recommend!

Perfect Stay
What a wonderful stay we had! Everything was well communicated from the start of our stay right to finish. We were welcomed with a thoughtful and beautiful package of some wonderful necessities. Which really made us feel welcome. Koala Cottage has plenty of sleeping room, is beautifully decorated, super comfy and we will definitely be recommending to our family and friends. Surrounded by beautiful trees and gardens, it was truly relaxing. Fiona was the perfect hostess. She made sure we were comfortable and that we had the touristy info we needed. Fiona and Scott even went out of their way when we were in threat of bad weather to put our car (pride and joy) under cover. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay at Koala 🐨 Cottage! We will be back!

Great family getaway
The cottage was very clean and comfortable, and located in a quiet and convenient location. Our hosts, Fiona and Scott, were super friendly, helpful and accommodating. They generously provided us with fresh eggs, milk, bread and cereal for breakfast. The pool was great and the kids had plenty of space to play games and just explore. We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it!

Great family accomodation. Our host was very kind and provided us with eggs from their chickens and other goodies for breakfast. The property was a lot of fun for the kids. They were up early to explore and didnt want to leave. The accomodation was very clean and tidy and exactly what we expected. We really enjoyed our night here.

Simple things are often the best!
Fiona and Scotty were the epitome of hospitality. From the expert local advice to the lovely thoughtful extras, like fresh eggs from their chooks, cereal and milk. Their generosity and kindness went well beyond any expectation that we have for hosts. The cottage although simple was exactly what we needed and exceptionally clean and tidy. So much thought and care in everything! Would highly recommend!
