Poor Communication
I had to request location info from the host. When he sent the information he had sent instructions for how to get to the house as it is challenging to get too. An address/pin was not provided so we were unable to put the location into GPS & when we asked locals for directions they stated that you needed the pin information. The roads are very narrow, bumpy, and have steep slopes-I do not recommend a larger vehicle (mini van) as it will scrape the bottom. When we arrived at the house it has a moldy smell that instantly triggered my asthmatic child into full asthma attacks. Due to this we were not able to stay. We communicated this will the host w/i 24 hours of check in. They told me if we cancelled our reservation and able to rebook the house they would refund us for our stay. To do this VRBO needed to speak directly to the owner for approval but after several attempts he did not respond. I also text and he responded he was on vacation until next week and to text him next week. I expressed that they needed to talk to him directly in order to cancel. I have attempted to text multiple times & have gotten no responses. I was appreciative that they were willing to work with me given the circumstance, but am highly disappointed that we lost the entire cost of the stay even though we did as they asked of us, but because he could not answer it was not possible for us to cancel. Then to stop responding or follow up feels very unprofessional and is very disappointing.
