The Shopkeeper's Cottage ~ CHIC!
Set amongst the rolling foothills of the Shenandoah Valley Wine Region, this is the heart of the Mother Lode, the Gold Country’s most beautiful and bountiful region. If the neighboring town of Sutter Creek, just 2 miles away, is known as “The Jewel of the Gold Country”, then Amador City is most certainly the “Hidden Nugget”. For quaintness and charm, look no further!
Positioned along the banks of Amador Creek sits historic Torres Hall in the once bustling community of Amador City during its Gold Rush heyday.
Tiny Amador City, now a beautifully preserved outpost to be rediscovered and treasured for its charm and historical significance will capture your imagination and your heart!
The Shopkeeper’s Cottage sits just 30 minutes from Folsom, 1 hour from Sacramento and Stockton and 2 hrs from the Bay Area. This amazing location not only offers convenience but a multitude of great activities and fun things to do!
You are only minutes away from wine tasting at dozens of acclaimed local vineyards, Harrah’s and Jackson Rancheria Casinos, Preston Castle and historic Gold Country towns where you can step back in time and rediscover a bygone era.
Nearby outdoor recreational activities such as hiking and biking trails are minutes away and Apple Hill, Prairie City OHV Park and Rancho Murietta Equestrian Facility within 40 minutes. Snow sports at Kirkwood or Sierra at Tahoe Resorts at just over an hour away and Yosemite National Park at just over 2 hrs away!
Your options are endless, all the while you’ll be immersed in California’s iconic beauty and discovering it’s historic past!
Historic Torres Hall, built at the height of the Gold Rush in 1857 can attest to being the area’s General Mercantile and Buggy Repair Shop among several notable businesses over the many years, with the past several decades it became known as an internationally renowned Doll and Bear Emporium.
The Shopkeeper’s Cottage has been fully remodeled and exquisitely curated to pay homage to the grand lady herself as well as others who came before her.
It’s refined and elegantly designed French Country style will wrap you in comfort and luxury while being steeped in the history and charm of another era.
You will be welcomed in to your own private foyer, between the two shop storefronts where you will be met with beautiful 20th century artwork of French countryside landscapes as you make your way down the hallway.
Upon entering the Cottage, you will instantly notice the 12ft ceilings and a gallery of 19th century original artwork of Parisian landmarks which hung in the Ritz, Paris until 2018, a venue also known as the home of another acclaimed shopkeeper, Coco Chanel.
Watch a movie on Netflix on your 70in tv on down filled Restoration Hardware sofas and French Bergere chairs complete with Alpaca throws to keep you warm and toasty!
Upon entering the European style, eat in farmhouse kitchen, this is where French Country is taken to a new level. With dining for 8-10 people, feel free to host a dinner party with a meal prepared in your chefs kitchen with Italian and copper cookware to prepare your meals. Enjoy multiple coffee bar options with either Nespresso, Keurig and French press options as well.
When it’s time to relax and unwind, you can retreat to your master suite with en-suite master bath, complete with stand up shower and jacuzzi soaking tub. Be sure to dim the chandeliers while soaking in your spa tub.
The Restoration Hardware armoire and 4 poster bed will transport you back to another era with turn of the century details. The travel and design decor will evoke a mood of nostalgia and adventure. All of the things our shopkeeper embraced and adored. The memory foam and gel pad mattress will surely help you to drift off to sleep in the 1250 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets while you watch a movie on your private tv.
The guest suite also offers its own en-suite bathroom as well, complete with stand up shower, faux-fireplace with heater insert for those chilly nights and 1250 thread count sheets with Restoration Hardware bedding. Feel free to watch a movie with your private tv as well as read a book from the library of literary classics or bestsellers in your down filled reading chair.
Invite friends to play a classic board game or puzzle in your separate game parlor.
If you would like to dine Al fresco, your private veranda awaits with dining table and sofa seating for 6.
Should you wish for more space or have a group gathering, the downstairs stone cellar is the perfect space to add when available.
Accessible to the Shopkeeper’s Cottage via the veranda stairway, you will have access to your own private stone and timber cellar with living area, kitchen, full bathroom , queen bedroom and pull out Murphy bed to sleep 4 additional guests.
Once known in the 70’s as the first wine tasting cellar in Amador County, it is also home to one of the oldest, if not the oldest producing Zinfandel grape vine in all of California at just over 150 years old.
The cellar, known as Vintage 1857 Stone Cellar can be booked additionally when available so please feel free to enquire about availability by the name “Vintage 1857 Cellar”. This handhewn timber and stone space will transport you back to another era for sure!
