Could have been great, but…
So this was a last minute booking (our other rental fell through) and we payed over the odds for it. All was fine for 1/2hr until we get notice that it’s double booked for the second week. We continued with the one week as we were travelling the next day. Funny how they can take payment immediately but can’t refund for 7-10 days. Vrbo, of course, blamed the banks for the slowness of the refund NOT themselves for taking the money in the first place for a booking they couldn’t fulfil.
Next up was checkin. Ok - this was a very late booking & the info didn’t flow through in time but we eventually found out that we had to pick up the keys from Golden Square. That’s in Soho - nobody except taxi drivers and masochists drive in Soho. Plus - parking near Golden Sq, are you kidding? We parked near the mews (£10) & got a taxi to (£10) & from (£10) Golden Sq - that was £30 in total to pick up the keys. Reimbursement promised but never delivered on.
The mews downstairs was mostly great although we did have to bring cushions & pillows from the bedrooms to make the designer sofa comfortable.
Upstairs was more problematic. There were stains & cigarette burns on the carpet but the main iciness was the profusion of stains in the shower room. In the absence of any ventilation condensation ran down the wall causing horrible staining & this had clearly been going on for some time. This is supposed to be a luxury mews, no?
Anyway, it all got worse after we checked out. We were accused of stealing two cushions from a bedroom. Hurtful, shocking, insulting and also completely wrong! We protested our innocence to the owner - the sms’s ran cold. We complained to Vrbo who didn’t really want to know.
If staying here make sure you photograph EVERYTHING as you move in AND as you leave.
This is my first booking with Vrbo & can’t say it was all that pleasant.
